TLT - Tapered Lens Technology

The Smith Optics Capital come with TLT lenses. Tapered Lens Technology corrects distortion by progressively tapering the lens from the optical center towards the outer edges. Light waves that would normally bend or distort creating an illusion of an objects size or position are thereby delivered straight to your eye resulting in zero distortion and true optical clarity. What you see is what you get.

Techlite Polarised Glass Lenses

The Smith Optics Capital Techlite Polarised Glass lenses produce clarity, optical precision, and comfort that surpass all expectations. By absolutely minimizing lens thickness to provide a 20% weight reduction over standard sunglass lenses, total frame weight rivals any sunglass on the market.

Created through a finishing process with controls maintaining 1/2000th of a millimeter tolerance, each lens is optically-corrected using Tapered Lens Technology. Utilizing a nine layer construction set up, all available light is managed to maximize clarity and eye comfort.

All Techlite Polarized Glass lenses utilize a multi-layer Anti-Reflective (AR) mirror coating to absorb back light effects. A permanent Oleophobic coating protects the lens and mirror coatings by repelling water, dirt, fingerprints, and grease.

Polarised Lenses

Polarised sunglass lenses block out a lot of scattered and reflected light (glare). For example, if you look at water in a pool with a standard lens, it is difficult to see an object under water clearly. This is due to the fact that the surface of the water is reflecting light from all different directions. Smith Optics polarised lenses filter those reflected rays so you can see below the surface of the water much more clearly.

Smith Optics polarised Lenses are manufactured using a special material designed to block out glare and only transmit useful light to your eyes. This optically engineered polarising material is a very thin membrane sandwiched between two pieces of optically ground lens material to filter out 99 percent of all reflected light for maximum eye protection.

However, there are some limitations to the use of polarised lenses, some drivers discover that polarised lenses can cause distortions in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Onboard clocks and other instrument displays may be temporarily unreadable.

Advantages: fantastic for all water sports, especially fishing, where the polarising filter allows vision through the surface reflective glare.

Grilamid TR90 Frames

The Smith Optics Capital sunglasses have grilamid TR90 frames that are light weight and extremely tough. TR90 frames have a high bending strength and strong resistance to chemicals and UV damage. Grilamid TR90 sunglasses frames will maintain their shape under all temperature conditions.

8 Base Lens Curvature

The Smith Optics Capital have an 8 base lens curvature. The base curve is the radius of the sphere measured from the back of the sunglass lens. Sunglasses typically come with either a 6, 7, 8 or 9 base lens curvature.

Sunglasses with an 8 base curvature will wrap around your face to protect you from the elements.

Category 3 Lenses

The Smith Optics Capital have category 3 lenses that meet the AS/NZS 1067:2003 standards for lenses. Category 3 sunglasses offer high sunglare reduction and good UV protection.  The majority of the sunglasses sold through out Australia are category 3 sunglasses.
