Manufacturer: Spotters
Product Name: Sandy
The Spotters Sandy sunglasses come in a variety of lenses. These Sunglasses are prescriptible.
Polycarbonate Lenses
Polycarbonate sunglass lenses are a cast synthetic lens with the same optical qualities and visual acuity as glass (mineral) lenses. It is, however, more lightweight than glass and 20 times more impact resistant. Polycarbonate lenses are generally used in one piece shields and in ski goggles because it is almost unbreakable. Polycarbonate lenses are softer than other lenses and will scratch more easily.
Advantages: strength and safety for sporting activities.
Mineral Glass Lenses
Mineral glass sunglass lenses are ground and polished glass lenses have perfect acuity and lack any distortion problems caused to other lenses by extreme temperatures (eg. Leaving your sunglasses on the dashboard of your car on a hot day can bend Acrylic and Polycarbonate lenses, causing distortion). Glass lenses have high UV and IR ratings, however, they are dangerous for sporting activities and in accidents. Spotters mineral lenses are chemically toughened to enhance their strength against breakage.
Advantages: no distortion and high ultra violet and infra red protection.
Polarised Lenses
Polarised sunglass lenses block out a lot of scattered and reflected light (glare). For example, if you look at water in a pool with a standard lens, it is difficult to see an object under water clearly. This is due to the fact that the surface of the water is reflecting light from all different directions. Spotters polarised lenses filter those reflected rays so you can see below the surface of the water much more clearly.
Spotters polarised Lenses are manufactured using a special material designed to block out glare and only transmit useful light to your eyes. This optically engineered polarising material is a very thin membrane sandwiched between two pieces of optically ground lens material to filter out 99 percent of all reflected light for maximum eye protection.
However, there are some limitations to the use of polarised lenses, some drivers discover that polarised lenses can cause distortions in liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Onboard clocks and other instrument displays may be temporarily unreadable.
Advantages: fantastic for all water sports, especially fishing, where the polarising filter allows vision through the surface reflective glare.
Hi Density Nylon
The Spotters Sandy sunglasses have hi density nylon frames which are extremely comfortable and durable.
Yellow Photochromatic Glass Lens
The Spotters Sandy sunglasses are available with a yellow photochromatic glass lens. Not for the faint hearted! A unique polarised, Photochromic yellow glass lens which changes colour perception and increases contrast in low light conditions. Increasing UV and sunlight activates the lens to a darker green tint, giving greater definition and reducing intensity. A specialist in extreme low light conditions; early mornings, late afternoons and cloudy days.
The yellow photochromatic glass lens can not be work while driving.
