Gradient lenses are made in lots of different shades. They appear softer looking on the face and are loved by many for this reason. Gradient lenses are great for low to medium light conditions.
Grey/Grey Green/Black lenses are extremely popular being the darkest tint available. Grey lenses are very natural in colour and are neutral to look through. Grey Lenses are great for high-light conditions.
Brown lenses are lighter in colour than Grey lenses. A brown lens will enhance colours and brighten things up to create more colour contrast. While a brown lens is great for full sun conditions they’re perfect for overcast days and high to medium/low light conditions when a grey lens can be too dark.
Rose and Copper lenses are very similar to a brown lens in the way they enhance colours and brighten things up, create more colour contrast and can make it easier to see. Rose and Copper Lenses are slightly lighter then a brown lens and provide a different shade to look through. Both lenses are great for full sun conditions and they’re perfect for overcast days and high to medium/low light conditions when a grey lens can be too dark.
Emerald/green lenses are the only lens colour on the market that gives your eyes natural colour tones while delivering enhanced depth perception. This lens colour is extremely soothing to your eyes, it shows undulations in the field in front of you and contrasts objects to give a clearer vision. This lens is a perfect option for people who are colour blind.
Blue mirror is a great addition to a grey lens that creates a cooling effect during periods of intense light and reduces eye fatigue. This lens is suitable for everyday use, particularly in high glare situations where you want natural colour perception. Blue mirror lenses are perfect on the water, afternoon glare and driving.
Silver mirror can be combined with a copper or grey lens. The silver mirror reflects bright light and heat away from your eyes which reduces eye fatigue. This lens is perfect for long distance driving, beach conditions, fishing and golf.
Green mirror is generally overlays an emerald or green lens. This lens colour is soothing to your eyes, allowing for depth perception and improved colour awareness without altering colour vision. This lens is perfect on the water, driving and depth perception.
The brilliant gold mirror overlay is a high contrast copper lens, which creates a cooling effect during periods of intense light and reduces eye fatigue. The copper tint filters out the majority of damaging short blue light waves which can cause blur, headaches and eye fatigue. The copper tint also serves to contrast colours across the visible light spectrum making objects appear sharper and colour clear and crisp. The gold mirror lens is perfect for long distance driving, golf and depth perception.
What are polarised sunglasses? And do I need them? Polarised is essentially an addition layer in the lens, which cuts out 99% of reflective glare. Reflective glare off surfaces such as the road, water, cars, etc. can be damaging to the eyes. The polarising layer in the lens cuts the glare making it easier to see, if you are on the water the polarised layer will cut the glare off the water allowing you to see deeper than just the surface. Reflective glare is a common cause of eye fatigue, headaches, and temporary blindness.
Photochromatic Lenses will adjust to the lighting condition you are in. If you are in full sun the lens will adjust to its darkest state. If you are in a low light condition or an overcast day the lenses will adjust to suit. Photochromatic lenses are loved by fisherman, cyclists and drivers as conditions are always changing. Serengeti sunglasses are all photochromatic making finding a style for you easy! Spotters have two very popular choices in the photochromatic lenses and Mako also have a few styles on offer.
Bi-focal Lenses are available with very few brands. They generally come in +1, +1.5, +2, +2.5, +3 strength. Bifocal Sunglasses look like your average pair of sunglasses yet they have a hidden magnification in the bottom of the lens. We have so many surprised and very happy customers when they realise what bifocal lenses can do for them; no more changing back and forth between your sunglasses and your specs! You can view Bifocal styles by narrowing your search with the categories on our website. Brands such as Maui Jim, Mako and Ugly Fish have these available. If you need any assistance at all please contact our friendly customer service team, as we are happy to assist you.
The most common lens material is polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is light in weight and one of the strongest impact resistant lenses available.
CR-39 Lenses have a better optical clarity compared to a polycarbonate Lens. They remain lightweight and are slightly more scratch resistant than a polycarbonate lens.
Glass Lenses are the most scratch resistant lenses on the market. Glass lenses also offer the highest optical clarity. While glass lenses are slightly heavier than any plastic lens, they have changed a lot over the years and are much lighter in weight then they used to be. All of the layers in a glass lens are inside it, which means no peeling or flaking over time.
