Your prescription might have other things listed like ADD, which is a reading addition measurement for those who require glasses for reading. The cylinder number, or CYL, indicates the lens power to correct astigmatism if necessary, accompanied by an AXIS number that shows the angle of the lens required for the CYL. 

Your PD number stands for the pupillary distance, a measurement of the distance between your pupils. This number is required to ensure that your lenses are made to sit in front of your pupil. 


To measure your PD, simply hold a ruler up to your right eye with the end of the ruler in line with your pupil. Measure the distance between your pupils and find the millimetre number that lines up with your left pupil. If your script has two PD numbers for your left and right eye, you can add these numbers together to find your total PD.

Depending on the frames you choose, your script and additional lens features available, prescription glasses can vary in cost. Prescription sunglasses can be affordable, look towards cheaper prescriptible frames to keep the cost down while keeping extra lens features at a minimum. However, if you are wanting to check the authenticity of a pair you bought elsewhere, there are a few easy ways to spot a fake Wayfarer. Firstly is the look and feel, if they look cheap and feel flimsy they may not be authentic as the Wayfarer should be durable and smooth to touch. Authentic Wayfarers will have a distinct, cursive Ray-Ban logo on the right lens in the top right corner, the left lens should have the letters "RB" etched into it with a crisp and clean finish. Authentic Wayfarer sunglasses will have a raised logo on the side of both temples and measurement markings on the inside of the temples with the messaging, "WAYFARER®, Hand Made in Italy.”

What size Ray-Ban sunglasses should I get?

Many popular Ray-Ban styles come in small, standard and large lens sizes to cater for all different head shapes and fits, these eye sizes are determined by the width of the lens. While most people fit the standard size, there is an easy way to determine which size is best for you. Take a credit card and turn it vertically, stand in front of a mirror and place one edge of the card on the centre of your nose bridge. If the other edge of the card meets at the end of your eye, the standard size is the correct fit for you. If the edge extends well beyond your eye, go for the smaller eye size of the style, and if the card doesn't meet the end of your eye, go for the large size.

What are the numbers on Ray-Ban sunglasses?

Hold your sunglasses up to your computer screen and rotate to a 60° angle. If your lenses darken in colour, this means your sunglasses are polarised. If they stay the same, they are non-polarised.

Grab two of your sunglasses and hold them together so that the lenses are in line with each other. Rotate one pair of sunnies at a 60° angle, if both pairs are polarised, the overlapping lens will become darker. If the lens doesn't darken, at least one of the sunglasses is not polarised.

As polarised lenses are designed to block glare, an easy way to test whether your sunnies are polarised is to hold your sunnies up to a reflective surface like metal or glass. Turn your sunnies at a 60° angle, if the glare diminishes, your sunglasses are polarised, if there is no change, your sunglasses are non-polarised.
